I have consistently applied to become a Group Fitness Instructor with this company since the summer of 2015. Every time I've applied via indeed.com, I would always get a notification stating that my application has been reviewed but for some odd reason, Iowa never contacted me for an interview or audition. I am very versed as a Group Fitness Instructor where my certifications include being a 600 hour Pilates Apparatus Instructor, Indoor Cycling and I am also a Personal Trainer. I can be of great use for any fitness company. All this changed on September 11, 2018 when Director of Operations Kelsey MacGlashing invited me for a September 12 interview. This right here would be the first sign of Iowa's unprofessionalism since it is improper and UNPROFESSIONAL to invite a candidate for an interview within 24 hours. I had to work the next day at my full time job. I informed Kelsey about this and requested for another day. Kelsey continued her unprofessional behavior by ignoring me. On March 7, 2019, Silver Towers General Manager Brendon Katon-Donegal called me in response to my indeed.com resume for an Assistant Manager role. I met Brendon at Silver Towers on March 14 where I felt the interview went well. Brendon was going to refer me to the final interview with Chief Operating Officer Jon Ostrowski and that I should hear from either him or Brendon for the date. They both never followed up with me. If they changed their mind regarding my progression within the interview process, Brendon or Jon should have notified me since this is the PROFESSIONAL thing to do. It's very rude and classless when employers ignore applicants after they have been interviewed. On April 30, 2019, Christina Velky contacted me from my indeed.com resume for a group fitness position. To add onto the unprofessionalism, she stated my name as Nicholas in the email. Most if not all group fitness "interviews" are auditions. I arrived at their headquarters on May 2 around 3:50pm for a 4pm interview. As I arrived, I saw a blond woman walk a candidate out of the office where she thanked him for showing up for the interview. The unprofessionalism continues since Christina didn't interview me at 4pm. This behavior is grossly disrespectful for the candidate's time. While I waited, I overheard Christina talking and laughing inside the office with another colleague. By 4:20pm, I walked into the office and kindly asked if I could be interviewed by Christina since I had a 5:30pm group fitness class. The blond woman identified herself as Christina and called me over to her desk. Christina continued her unprofessionalism by not apologizing for keeping me waiting unnecessarily. I informed her of my interview with Brendon only for Christina to brush it off. Christina stated "the Assistant Manager position at Silver Towers is no longer vacant. I don't know why Brendon interviewed you since we prefer to promote from within the company." The interview concluded within five minutes and Christina said she will contact me next week for an audition. I never heard back from unprofessional Christina. I will never apply for Iowa Sports Management again! A former Iowa Manager recently started working with my company where I am also a Manager and informed me that Iowa expects its Managers to be on-call 24 hours a day. All cell phone communications from residents, subordinates or upper Management must be responded to promptly whether on paid time off or regular days off and this is clearly listed on their indeed.com job postings. I strongly advise seeking employment with this unprofessional company.

Outstanding trainer is Leonard Smith who is absolutely super !!! I am overweight and self conscious with a bad knee. Smith tailor made a first class challenging workout (but just enough) without the agony. He doesn't make me feel self conscious given my level of strength. I can testify that doing Smith's "grown up" (not wimpy girl type workout) exercises have made me feel stronger and self confident in every way. Then he emails me after every workout the next day to see if I have any problems or excessive soreness. He is also very kind and concerned with older folks on the training floor. He's not an exercise "snob" though he's a super gifted athlete. He also advises me what to eat after my workout which I really appreciate since he is a student studying the latest nutrition information. I feel supremely lucky to have this wonderful "superman" training me.

If you want to be creeped out by this guy who wears flip flops with with his phone on his hand, wanders around the gym and slams the weights, this gym is the place. After talking to other members at the gym, this guy comes to this gym almost every day, follows around you, and be completely creepy. What’s worse, this gym only has on stair master which is out of order all the time.

WORST sports management of ALL TIME. They are RUDE to the people who use the gym, they overreach on a power trip. I have been verbally harassed on several occasions and am consistently DISPLEASED with the overall management, maintenance of the gym equipment, that I plan my workouts around when iowa sports management employees are FAR AWAY from the gym facilities I desire using.
