Apologies in advance for what will likely be a rather lengthy post. I don't normally post reviews, but after what happened this morning, I have to say something. NYSC Glendale opened an hour late this morning; their opening time is 5:30, we were waiting outside until just shy of 6:30. Not only gym goers, but contractors reporting for work (doing renovations) were left to stand outside indefinitely. This is not the first (or second....or third....) time this has happened. On the weekends it happens nearly every time, which is additionally frustrating because on Sat-Sun they open later at 7. The unreliable opening times have gotten out of control, and that is completely unacceptable for any establishment, let alone a gym that costs $50 a month. Gyms, much like coffee shops and bodegas, open very early in the morning for a reason: people go before work. If you open the gym a full hour late, you will certainly force people to turn around and head home without getting their workout because they have jobs and other obligations. That wastes their time, gets their day off to a horrible start, and is just disrespectful. I spoke to the manager after I completed my workout (another thing I hardly ever do), and though she was very friendly, I'm going to have to keep an eye on this going forward. Fellow regulars told me that this particular manager is never on time, so I guess we'll see. Anyway, she said that what had happened was that somebody hadn't shown up to work and that another manager's leave was extended, and that she would be opening the gym for the next month. It seems a bit ridiculous that one person not reporting for work is all it takes for the gym not to open, surely a large chain like NYSC can afford to put 2 people on the opening shift. Furthermore, openers in any establishment are supposed to arrive BEFORE the place opens to get it ready. The manager gave me my next month's membership free, which was very nice, but I made a point to say that what we want is reliability. It truly is the absolute bare minimum. I suspect they waived A LOT of membership fees today. Moral of the story: I don't especially want to switch gyms, but if this continues, I might have to.

My yoga teacher, Mariette, is absolutely incredible! I take her class three times a week, and each session leaves me feeling stronger, more balanced, and refreshed. Her deep knowledge, calming presence, and expert guidance make even the toughest poses feel accessible. She creates a welcoming, supportive space and has truly transformed my practice. If you’re looking for an inspiring and passionate yoga teacher, Mariette is the best!

I have been taking yoga at NYSC with Mariette Rodriguez for a little over 2 years. I first started my yoga journey when I rejoined the gym shortly after having spinal fusion surgery. I hadn’t worked out in a while, so was nervous and apprehensive to start, but felt like yoga was the perfect place. From my very first day, Mariette was kind, understanding, welcoming, and so knowledgeable in her craft and willing to accommodate not only me, but every single student that stepped foot in her class. She knows every student by name and takes the time to learn about them and their unique needs. I attribute a huge part of my healing to Mariette’s guidance, teaching, and beautiful and contagious energy. I can honestly say I wouldn’t be as strong as I am today if it weren’t for her! I would recommend Mariette’s yoga class to anyone interested, regardless of age, gender, or ability level- it is truly a magical experience. My only complaint is that it is not offered more!!!

Definitely the best gym in the area! My favorite aspects of New York Sports Club are the responsive staff, community feel, and class offerings. The team at the front desk and beyond all work hard to add to the gym!

The gym staff are friendly, but the equipment needs to be better maintained. Half the machines aren't receiving maintenance and are getting rusty, and the treadmills always have 2-3 broken ones. Today several of the treadmills that WEREN'T broken were still malfunctioning as the emergency stop was automatically triggering without the switch itself being pulled.
